description | Solid cystic tumor (SCT) of the pancreas is rarely seen in young males. We report a solid cystic tumor of the pancreas in a 9-year old boy. The patient was admitted to our hospital complaining of upper abdominal pain. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography examinations revealed a solid tumor in the tail of the pancreas. Abdominal magnetic resonance imaging showed bleeding in the tumor. An angiography showed a hypervascular tumor in the tail of the pancreas. An operation was performed under a diagnosis of pancreatoblastoma or SCT. On exploration, a solid tumor with a fibrous encapsulation was found. A distal pancreatectomy without splenectomy was performed. The histological findings confirmed a diagnosis of pancreatic SCT with few cystic lesions. Immunohistochemical studies showed immunoreactivity for α1-antitrypsin and NSE. The patient has been well for five years and eleven months since surgery, with no signs of recurrence. |
