Zusammenfassung: | A 74-year-old woman complained of right frontal headache. A smooth swelling was found in the sphenoid sinus of the right nasal cavity. A CT-scan revealed a mosaic soft tissue density lesion occupying the right sphenoid sinus. The patient underwent a right transnasal sphenoidectomy. A dark brownish mass was removed. Pathological finding was resulted mucormycosis. Mucormycosis is an opportunistic infection and its pathogenic nature becomes evident when the patient's general resistance has been altered by metabolic disorders or chemotherapeutic agents. However, in this case we did not find any underlying disorder. Numbers of case reports about fungal sinusitis has been increased, but mucormycosis originating in the sphenoid sinus is rarely reported. Sphenoid sinus mycosis, reported in Japanese literature, were reviewed. |
