Neogótico rural y terror gringo en la literatura argentina actual : Una lectura de Vacas de Belén Sigot

En este artículo nos proponemos realizar una lectura de Vacas, la nouvelle de la autora entrerriana Belén Sigot, publicada en 2018. Esta comienza con una potente imagen de vacas muertas que no se descomponen. Ambientada en una comunidad entrerriana de inmigrantes, la nouvelle viene a mostrar el escenario de un pueblo hecho de cuchicheos, egoísmos y recelos, dejando ver su cara más sórdida. En el pasaje que va de « la querencia » al « pueblo chico / infierno grande » se instala una forma particular de terror que no apela a los elementos fantásticos como su principal recurso sino a la diseminación de un clima ominoso e irrespirable. En este sentido, nos interesa profundizar en las modulaciones del terror neogótico ligadas a lo rural, que inscriben a Vacas en el panorama de la narrativa argentina actual, participando de esta manera de una serie de producciones que hacen un tratamiento renovado de los tópicos de la literatura y la ruralidad. In this article we want to carry out a reading of Vacas, a novel by the Entre Ríos´ author Belén Sigot published in 2018. The novel begins with a powerful image of dead cows that don’t decompose. Set in a community of immigrants from Entre Ríos, the novel shows the scene of a town made of whispers, selfishness, and mistrust, revealing its most sordid face. In the passage that goes from « the land of one’s own » to « small town / big hell » , a particular form of terror is installed that does not appeal to fantastic elements as its main source, but to the dissemination of an ominous and unbreathable climate. In this sense, we are interested in delving into the modulations of neo-gothic terror linked to the rural, which inscribes Vacas in the panorama of current argentine narrative, participating in this way in a series of productions that make a renewed treatment of the topics of literature and rurality.
