DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3372/wi.45.45203 A renewed study of the type material of Cryptocoryne tonkinensis Gagnep. has been compared to recently collected live material from northeastern Vietnam and southeastern China. This has revealed that plants from these regions hitherto referred to Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis (Gagnep.) N. Jacobsen are different from material found in Thailand and southern Vietnam, also previously referred to var. tonkinensis. A taxonomic description of Cryptocoryne crispatula var. tonkinensis s.str. is provided.
