description Second contribution to the knowledge of the Western-European Himantariidae: revision of Stigmatogaster dimidiata (Meinert, 1870) and discovery of S. sardoa (Verhoeff, 1901) in France (Chilopoda, Geophilomorpha). Several specimens resembling to Stigmatogaster dimidiata, particularly S. sardoa, were collected in the Var department (France). A thorough revision of S. dimidiata was conducted, based on typical materials as well as additional individuals from mainland Spain (Madrid), the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores, and Oran (Algeria: syntypes of S. dimidiata var. angusta), which helped refine and correct some identification criteria. Over 15 specimens of S. sardoa from Sardinia were also examined to complete the species description. The individuals from the Var department were identified as S. sardoa due to numerous morphological similarities, marking the species’ first recorded occurrence in France. However, future detailed studies of Sardinian and Var populations could potentially reveal discrepancies, as minor morphological differences were noted between the French and Sardinian specimens (potential subspecies?). A comparative table of S. dimidiata, S. sardoa, S. arcisherculis Brölemann, 1904, and S. subterranea (Shaw, 1794) is provided with an English translation.
