description | The purpose of the study was to quantify the impact of gratitude on subjective well-being and moderating role of materialism among Pakistani youth. For this purpose, the sample of 550 participants (aged 15-29) were selected through a multistage random sampling technique from five metropolitan cities of Pakistan. The measurement tools employed for the data collection were the Subjective Happiness Scale (Lyubomirsky & Lepper 1999), Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener et al., 1998) Gratitude Questionnaire GQ-6 (McCullough et al., 2002), and Material Values Scale (Richines & Dawson., 1992). The collected data were analyzed through Smart PLS (3.0). The results showed a significant positive relationship between gratitude and subjective well-being (happiness and satisfaction with life) and a negative relationship with materialism. Whereas, materialism played a significant moderating role between gratitude and subjective well-being. Significant gender differences were also exhibited in this study. This study also provides guidelines and strategies for youth and parents, to educational professionals, new researchers, society, and government agencies. |
