Zusammenfassung:The publication examines contemporary historiography dedicated to the great Kiev prince Vladimir Monomakh from his birth to his accession to the Kiev throne. It is shown that despite the great attention of the historians to the prince’s figure, most episodes of his biography continue to be a subject for discussion. This can be explained both by the nature of the sources and by the adherence of researchers to a certain historiographic tradition, and their conceptual preferences. In this connection, the writing of a truly academic biography of the prince turns out to be possible only taking into account the totality of the historiographic tradition about him and its critical understanding.
