Zusammenfassung:Factor analysis is commonly used by geographers in studies of formal and functional spatial patterns. A review of applications in human geography illustrates the wide variety of uses but reveals a number of technical problems. Certain difficulties arise in all factor applications but others are particularly associated with spatial data. Possible solutions to these problems are discussed, and technical issues which require further study are identified.
