A Consciousness Survey on SDGs Initiatives for Young Women: From Perspective of Clothing Environment and Gender Equality

The societies started many actions to achieve the sustainable development according to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the world. Recently, the word of SDGs is come to hear so often in our daily life. However, it seems to be slightly difficult to recognize what SDGs is and targets for each goal, especially for young generation. Gender equality which is one of the SDGs is gathering attention as an important social problem. Therefore, it is of importance to keep consciousness and understand the SDGs actions for young generation. In this study, the survey was conducted to investigate the awareness and practice of the SDGs initiatives for the young women who were studying in the fashion field. Additional aim of this survey was to understand the current situation of consumers for conscious reduction of the wasteful consumption and disposal of clothes. From the results of the survey, many of the young women agreed with the importance of the SDGs initiatives, but the ratio of the women having interest in them was reduced to about half, and the degree of recognition was about the same. Many of them were very interested in the eco-friendly lifestyle, and in activities to improve the women’s rights. It is importance to make young women understand the relations between their interests with the SDGs initiatives to raise awareness and understanding of the SDGs initiatives.
