Once Again on the Historicity of the Shroud of Turin: A Burial Shroud or a Product of High Technology?

Funeral shroud kept in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, represents the quintessence of humanitarian and natural science issues related to Christian monuments. A seemingly ordinary artifact — a linen shroud, with a confidently traced provenance stretching at least from the time of the 4th Crusade, does not lose its position as the holder of the title of the most mysterious object of the Christian world — the burial shroud of Jesus Christ (?). The paper describes the history of the artifact, its photographic fixation and subsequent natural scientific study, the rich legendary background of the acquisition of the sindon and the main contradictions that worry the academic and theological community in connection with the imprint (or image) of a man on the fabric of the shroud.
