Zusammenfassung:This research is devoted to the topic of gabion barriers as a tool to protect against road accidents on highways. Nowadays, the growth of vehicles has led to an increase in traffic accidents. Due to the fact that classic road barriers that are used on highways don`t always effectively perform their function, exists a need to configure a new more effective road barrier which would reduce traffic accidents as well as the cost of materials, device, maintenance and repair designs. The article provides a detailed analysis of the barrier fences used in the construction of roads of many countries. The paper deals with the theoretical and empirical aspects of road barriers. The article analyzes the traditional road barriers new foreign developments and a new type of gabion fencing, which was not considered by investigators as a tool for protection against road accidents on highways. For empirical evaluation of the benefits of gabions from classical barrier fences, the article presented a model of fencing, as well as software packages by which to evaluate the effectiveness of gabions as security barriers. The research and experience of road and bridge construction in many countries, including the domestic experience of recent years, demonstrated that gabion structures have very wide capabilities and properties, such as economy, durability and durability, which are key in the construction of roads.
