THE PLACE OF METHACHOLINE (MECHOLYL®) IN THE MANAGEMENT OF PAROXYSMAL SUPRAVENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA

Methacholine has a distinct place in the management of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. It is recommended as the drug of choice when a patient is moribund and a fastacting drug is indicated. Certain indispensable precautions are outlined for its use. The interaction of methacholine and popularly used drugs such as quinidine and digitalis is discussed. The observations on an infant with recurrent supraventricular tachycardia, successfully treated with methacholine on several occasions, are presented.
