La méthode FCIR servant à analyser l'encre gallique a été appliquée à certains cas pratiques, p. ex. pour identifier la qualité chimique de certains écrits et dessins contenus dans des documents historiques et qui apparaissent tous noirs à l'oeil nu de la même façon que le papier qui a été fortement dégradé par une corrosion à l'encre. L'utilisation de la méthode FCIR permet de mettre en évidence la couleur rouge de l'encre gallique alors que le papier corrodé reste invariablement noir, ainsi il est possible d'évaluer le degré de la détérioration.
