Zusammenfassung:An unusual cause of an ipsilateral common peroneal nerve palsy, at the level of the fibula head following left total hip arthroplasty (THA), in a 48-year-old female patient is reported. The complication occurred suddenly on the fifth postoperative day as a result of compression from the securing strap of the Charnley abduction pillow. To our knowledge this well recognised complication of hip surgery has not previously been attributed to this cause. This report emphasises the vigilance that is needed to be aware of the many potential causes of nerve palsy so that this complication can be avoided.
