description Growth control, growth management, and smart growth, which aim at managing urban land use with respect to economic, social, and environmental impacts, have been recognized in not only developed but developing counties as a way to harmonize human activity on the impacts. In Japan, the concept of compact city has been widely recognized and applied at various levels of planning to cope with the problems of declining population, aging society etc. This paper analyzed local cities to find how compact each city was, and what shape of its road network was. We find that distribution of Int.V, which space syntax theory calculated, became close to normal distribution.
