description With an increasing concern on energy consumption in communication systems, we propose the use of two-mode transceiver circuitry to improve a system's energy efficiency so the system is capable of switching between idle and transmission modes. In this letter, we develop a simple energy efficiency analytical model based on this circuitry. Simulation results show that our model is highly accurate in approximating the actual energy efficiency when a two-mode circuitry is in use. Numerical results further suggest that using a two-mode transceiver circuitry can significantly improve the system energy efficiency.
