Zusammenfassung:	Solea theophilus (Risso, 1810) [= 5. impar Bennett, 1831] was reared up to metamorphosis and its development stages were com pared with the corresponding stages of the genus Solea described in the literature. This led to the definition of several features by which the four different species S. lascaris, S. theophilus, S. kleini and S, senegalensis may be distinguished.
