description | Analysis of the results of repeated investigations of a series of nail infections gives support for the view that the major reason for difficulty in culturing dermatophytes from microscopically positive nails is the presence of non-viable hyphae in the distal portion of the nail accessible to sampling. The results also indicate that griseofulvin treatment because of its effect on the fungus-keratin relationship probably improves the cultural result.
