description To date, quality control methods remain underutilized in a number of companies due to the amount of knowledge required for their selection and implementation. A knowledge-based advisory system called SYSMIQ (SYStème pour la Maîtrise Intelligente de la Qualité, i.e., intelligent system for quality control) has now been developed to assist decision makers in selecting the best quality tools and techniques and correctly apply them on the shop floor. The main features of this system are presented. SYSMIQ has been tested on data from two applications and has been well received by the industrial users. This work is a part of a broader project related to quality, the MIQ (intelligent quality control) project, whose purpose is to provide computer-aided support to quality problems.
