Zusammenfassung:Abstract The asymmetric synthesis of the diene unit of methyl ­sartortuoate is described. A temperature-sensitive intramolecular Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction was employed for the construction of the 14-membered ring. A Payne rearrangement of an 2,3-epoxy alcohol was utilized for the installation of the hydroxyl group at the C14 position of the diene unit.
