Zusammenfassung: | Objective:
The objective of this study was to evaluate the evolution of patients 12 months after fossa posterior tumors surgery.
Materials and Methods:
Were conducted a prospective study from January 2007 to June 2012. During the time of our study 53 tumors of the cerebral posterior fossa were registered and 36 were operated. In case of hydrocephalus with complete obstruction of the fourth ventricle endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) were performed before microsurgical resection. Histologic diagnostic was obtained for all operated tumors.CT scans were realized one month and 12 months after surgery. Karnofski index was used to assess pre and post operative morbidity.
Results:
Posterior fossa tumors were 34, 41% of all cerebral tumors admitted during the study period. The sex ratio was 1,78:1. The mean age was 28, 56 years ranging from 3 months to 65 years. 40% of patients were from rural areas. 76, 48%of tumors were located in the cerebellum. It was pilocytic astrocytoma in 36, 11%, meningioma 16, 66%, angiopericytoma in 13, 88%. Total resection of the tumor was performed in 86, 66% cases. The Karnofski average score was 83.7 at 12 months. 5, 55% of our patients died during the fellow up.
Conclusion:
Surgical management with total resection is possible with good outcome without recurrence for benign tumors. |
