Zusammenfassung:Sphenoid wing meningiomas account for less than one-fifth of all intracranial meningiomas. However, these tumors contribute to a disproportionately high degree of meningioma morbidity because of their proximity to cranial nerves, the internal carotid artery, and other critical neurovascular structures. Data regarding present day surgical strategy and outcome for sphenoid wing meningiomas are limited. We retrospectively reviewed our series of patients treated for a sphenoid wing meningioma at a single institution over the past decade. Over 60 patients were identified and treated between 2005 and 2014. Patient demographics, tumor characteristics, and patient outcomes are discussed. Particular emphasis is given to modern surgical strategy, as specific operative techniques are best suited for particular tumor characteristics.
