Laser annealing reveals a kinetically hindered high pressure arsenopyrite phase that is recoverable to ambient. The new phase is similar to the Mn-dichalcogenides rather than the expected Re-dichalcogenides and involves the formation of S-S and Tc-Tc bonds.
