Zusammenfassung:POLYSTYRENE deformed in plane strain compression shows inhomogeneous plastic shear deformation in the form of intense shear deformation bands 1 . These bands are distinct from craze marks and must not be confused with the latter. Crazes occur in a direction perpendicular to the principal tensile stress, while the deformation bands are nearly parallel to the planes of maximum shear stress 2,3 .
