Phenylium (C6H5+) ion-molecule reactions studied by ion cyclotron resonance spectroscopy

Zusammenfassung:Ion-assisted dehalogenation reactions of halobenzenes provide a convenient source of phenylium ions. Gas-phase reactions of phenylium ions with hydrogen, alkanes, alkyl halides, alkenes, and arenes have been studied by ion cyclotron resonance spectroscopy. Phenylium ions are strong electrophiles, attacking sigma as well as ..pi.. and nonbonding electrons. The reactivity of phenylium ions has carbenoid characteristics.
