Ground- and Excited-State Tautomerism in 2-(3'-Hydroxy-2'-pyridyl)benzimidazole
Ground-state HPyBI is determined to have keto-enol equilibrium in water, and the enol form predominates in nonaqueous solutions. The keto form is the only excited form in all the solvents considered. Ultrafast intramolecular proton transfer creates the enol form from the keto form. 47 refs., 6 figs....
