Lauric acid-containing triglycerides in seeds of Umbellularia californica Nutt. (Lauraceae)

A white crystalline material isolated from the seeds ofUmbellularia californica consisted mainly of the mixed triglyceride, dilaurocaprin, with smaller amounts of trilaurin and dicaprolaurin and a trace of tricaprin. The yield of crude oil from a tree growing at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, was considerably less than that reported previously for trees growing in California.
