Zusammenfassung: | In this letter, we study on an epsilon‐negative zeroth‐order resonator (ENG ZOR) antenna properties for mobile handsets, such as impedance bandwidth, radiation efficiency, and so on.An ENG ZOR consists of two shunt inductors for epsilon‐negative property and a patch between two inductors for right‐handed property. The zeroth order resonant frequency of the ENG ZOR is fixed by two shunt inductors and shunt equivalent capacitor between a patch and a ground. Therefore, when the size of the patch is increased, the values of the shunt inductors are decreased to fix the resonant frequency. The bandwidth and radiation efficiency of the designed ENG ZOR antenna is experimentally analyzed by adjusting the size of the patch between two inductors. Details of the antenna characteristics are described, and both simulated and measured results of the designed antenna are presented. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
