Zusammenfassung:<正> Fraunhofer diffraction theory for multiple slits is applied to realistic image synthesis. By incorporating a diffraction term of grating in Whitted’s illumination model, a new illumination model is derived, which can simulate some natural phenomena depicted only by wave optics, such as the rainbow patterns on the gratings, which are never generated by traditional illumination models.
