description Tamaš Hryb’s organizational work in the field of historical science resulted in a compilation of a valuable collection of books, periodicals, and documents in the interwarCzechoslovakia. Hryb was a Belarusian immigrant to the Czechoslovakia and his activities were supported both by Ukrainian emigrants (Belarusian Academic Cabinet at the UkrainianInstitute of Social Sciences in Prague) and by the Czechoslovak government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Belarusian Foreign or Historical Archives). Parts of thecollection were forgotten after World War II and parts of it ended up in the archives of several Soviet republics. Nevertheless, recent wide archival research allows to concludethat Hryb’s efforts served to preserve the memory of Belarusian society’s attempts to form a modern independent Belarusian state and gave Czechs and Slovaks an opportunityto think differently about Eastern Europe.
