description This study aims to call attention to the Upper Paleolithic epoch of the Dniester-Carpathian region. The author suggests discussion of the new cultural-chronological periodization of the provenance process and evolution of the Upper Paleolithic of the Carpathian-Dniester natural habitat based on the previous elaborations and statements regarding periodization of the late Paleolithic, new interregional stratigraphic scheme of the late-Quaternary deposits of the central and south-eastern Europe and associating them with Paleolithic sites elaborated by P. Haesaerts and his colleagues (including the author of the present article). The work analyses the state of the problem, historiographic aspects and concretizes some of the concepts the author holds to. Many of the technocomplexes (Aurignacian and Gravettian) are sharply subdivided into several cultures and variants of cultures according to the indicated chronostratigraphic scheme. The author also makes comparison with similar subdivisions of contiguous territories of Central Europe and steppes of the Eastern-European plain.
